-The Vagdevi Children's Art School was established
Jan 2nd, 2009.
- The Vagdevi Children's Art School currently has 17 children from the local village, attending classes Monday to Saturday.
Most of these children had never previously attended school. We have facilities for up to 40 students, and filling
out our enrollment is one of our primary goals.
- Our children are between 5 and 12 years of age.
- The Vagdevi Children's Art School employs six staff, including 2 teachers, receptionist, caretaker, cook and school doctor.
There is also a music teacher who comes twice per week to teach Sitar and vocals..
- The Vagdevi Children's Art School encourages the children to pursue the subjects in which they excel or are interested in.
- We have monthly performance tests, usually on the 30th of each month.
- A local doctor visits once per week for normal check-ups and to treat any health issues that appear.
- The Vagdevi Children's Art School has monthly field trips to local sites. These have included the Buddhist Temples at Sarnath,
as well as sightseeing in Varanasi with it's many ancient Hindu temples, on the banks of the Sacred River Ganges.
- The Vagdevi Children's Art School expresses it's dedication to helping the families of our students by providing medicines
as needed, helping parents to find work, and a range of other services and referrals.
Plans for 2011:
- Next year we plan to run classes to provide the children's mothers with employable skills, including sewing,
handicrafts, job hunting, among others.
- We plan to expand the scope of our doctor's work to include visiting local families to provide basic health education
and whenever possible, clinical treatment in the patient's homes.
- We hope to double our student enrollment, and bring our school closer to working at it's full potential. We plan
to rely on our outreach program for this.
